For the engineering roles, the bar is real coding — Python, comfort with APIs, and hands-on experience wiring models to tools and data. Knowing an agent framework and being able to debug why a chain of steps fell apart is what pushes you into the top rate band. These are proper software roles that happen to be pointed at AI.
The testing and task-design side asks for something different: patience, a methodical mind, and a knack for imagining how an agent will go wrong before it does. If you can write a clear task, follow it through step by step, and document a failure so an engineer can fix it, you don't need to code to be valuable here.
