About the Role

What if your expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models — exposing flaws in their physical reasoning and helping ensure they never violate the fundamental laws of the universe.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just deep mastery of physics and the ability to think rigorously about how the world works.

What You'll Do

• Design advanced, open-ended physics problems at PhD qualifying exam level — requiring multi-step logical reasoning and rigorous mathematical derivation
• Author gold-standard solutions with precise, step-by-step workings, correct physical constants, and flawless unit conversions
• Audit AI-generated simulations, derivations, and proofs for physical consistency — identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates first principles
• Provide structured, expert feedback to improve AI reasoning around conservation laws, boundary conditions, symmetry arguments, and physical constraints
• Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

• Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
• Deep command of the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
• Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured written English
• Uncompromising precision with units, scientific notation, dimensional analysis, and the logical structure of proofs
• Naturally detail-oriented with a systematic, methodical approach to problem-solving
• No prior AI or tech experience required

Nice to Have

• Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance for research content
• Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
• Background in research publication, academic instruction, or scientific writing
• Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation workflows
