Energy Professional
About this role
Overview
Handshake is looking for energy professionals to support AI research through flexible, hourly contract work. This is not a traditional job. You'll draw on your hands-on experience with renewable energy modeling, microgrid design, and asset performance analysis to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand renewable energy engineering workflows and practices.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside anything else you have going on.
Details
- This project involves using your professional experience and hands-on knowledge of the tools you use in your daily work to create expert-level training data and evaluate AI-generated responses for accuracy and relevance. No prior AI experience required.
- Fully remote with a flexible, asynchronous schedule and no minimum hour requirement; most contributors work approximately 5–20 hours per week when participating in an active project.
- Placement depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.
Qualifications
At least 4 years of professional experience in the energy industry, in roles such as:
- Reservoir Engineer, Drilling Engineer, Production Engineer, Petrophysicist, or Reserves Analyst
- Plant Performance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Plant Operator, Control Room Operator, or Shift Supervisor
- Meter Data Analyst, Meter Technician, Utility Technician, or Utility Maintenance Worker
- Billing Analyst, Regulatory Analyst, FERC Reporting Analyst, or Rate Case Analyst

- EHS Specialist, Process Safety Engineer, NERC CIP Analyst, or Environmental Analyst
- Power Market Analyst, Load Forecasting Analyst, or PPA Analyst
- Electrician, Electrical Technician, or Field Service Technician working in utility or industrial settings
Hands-on experience with workflows common to the energy industry, such as reservoir simulation, AFE preparation, meter data validation, load forecasting, emissions reporting, predictive maintenance, regulatory rate case filing, or renewable generation forecasting
Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
Backed by an established career platform, with a huge range of roles and strong rates for advanced degrees. Work depends on active projects, most roles are US-only, and a pending lawsuit questions how workers are classified.
